ABOUT US
We are a family-owned kennel located in McBain, Michigan, and we take great pride in placing each of our puppies in the perfect home. Every puppy comes with AKC registration, a 1-year health guarantee, a 2-year hip and elbow guarantee, microchipping, age-appropriate vaccines and deworming, a full veterinary exam before leaving, a puppy care package, and lifetime breeder support. We are always here to answer questions and absolutely LOVE receiving update pictures as your puppy grows. All of our puppies are raised using both Puppy Culture and Badass Breeder curriculum, with ESI and ENS starting at just 3 days old.
Our dogs enjoy the freedom of our 50 acres of wooded and open land. They love running loose, exploring the property, going to the river/lake, and tagging along on horseback trail rides. They are not kennel dogs and they do not spend their days confined. We have large, fenced outdoor play pens where they are grouped with their dog friends so they can play, interact, and just be dogs all day long.
We do have a fully heated and cooled kennel building, and this is where they sleep at night. Each dog has their own indoor/outdoor run with a comfortable bed, toys, and their own food and water. In the morning, everyone is turned back out into the outdoor pens to enjoy the day. Our kennel also includes an office, a designated whelping room, and separate puppy rooms so every stage of care has its own safe, clean space. Between our daily routine, chores, and playtime, our dogs interact with us and our children every single day—making them true members of the family.
Our breeding program focuses on West German Showline German Shepherds in rich black and red, as well as solid black and sables. All of our adults and puppies are raised around children, guests, and ranch animals, giving them excellent socialization and exposure from the beginning. We intentionally breed low-to-mild drive shepherds to produce well-rounded, confident, stable, loving family companions with sound temperaments and strong structure.

meet the Breeders
I’m Jessica Hughston, the face behind Hughston German Shepherds! If you send us a message, call, text, or email, I’m the gal you’ll be talking to every time. I was raised around German Shepherds my whole life, my dad is a retired police officer, so shepherds were always part of our family, and my grandparents, who are of German and Polish heritage, bred German Shepherds here and there over the years. The love for this breed truly runs deep in our family, and it’s something that was planted in my heart from the very beginning. Building this program has been one of the biggest blessings of my life.
My husband, Myles, is my rock and truly the backbone of everything we do here. We are a team in every sense of the word. We have two beautiful children, Mila-Rose and Denton, who have been raised right alongside our shepherds. You’ll often find them helping with puppy socialization, snuggling newborns, or tagging along for chores. Their love for the dogs is genuine, and it shows in the way our pups are raised.
Myles and I met through the rodeo world, he was a saddle bronc rider and I am a barrel racer. We got married in 2017, and that same year, Hughston German Shepherds was born. We started with just one stud dog and a dream, and through dedication, prayer, and a whole lot of work, our program has grown into something we are incredibly proud of. We specialize in West German Show Line Shepherds with impeccable pedigrees, solid health testing, and the wonderful temperaments this line is known for. Our faith and our family values influence everything we do, from the way we raise puppies to the way we care for our adult dogs.
One of our biggest joys is getting to run this business as a family. Our kids are hands-on from day one, whether they’re in the whelping room monitoring newborns, helping during ENS/ESI training, or playing with puppies out in the yard. Because of this, our puppies grow up confident, social, and deeply comfortable in a family environment. We want you to feel completely at peace knowing your future puppy has been raised with love, structure, and intentional care every single day!

We are a current Bred with H.E.A.R.T. Breeder with the American Kennel Club. We are always looking to better the German Shepherd bred and to learn as much as we can about every process.

Accomplishments
When we import new adults from Europe to add to our breeding program, we look for those who have noteworthy pedigrees as well as show ratings from competing. We want well rounded adults that have workability but also an off switch to be amazing family dogs!
